Dyno Run Time

I finally had the chance to put the GSW on the Dyno. I have been wanting to put the Neuspeed Power Module to the test for quite some time. So we put the Sportwagen on the Dyno and checked the numbers it produces to the wheels.

So the power module had been on the car for the last 8 months or so. Since I am pretty cheap when it comes to just about anything, I bought it used.
The stock engine is rated at 170hp/199 lbf ft, mind you that’s at the engine. Generally power loss can be anywhere from 15%-25%, the place I did the Dyno at actually said that their Mustang Dynometer is said to rob about 33% from the crank to the wheels – although this may be a little too generous.

The Power Module itself is said to produce 30hp, 55 ft./lbs. torque on 91 octane. Thats 20%/25% respectively over stock figures. Thats a pretty strong claim considering that this mod will cost you just under $400 from Neuspeed.

After a few dyno runs, the results pretty much confirmed the claim. The numbers came in at 169hp/201 ft./lbs. torque. to the wheels. And mind you, that is on 87 octane.

Here is a photo of the dyno printout. The first run got stopped early as the engine went into limp mode and the EPC light came on. We turned the car off and back on and that seemed to remedy whatever issue the car was having…

Another mod currently on the car that, and you might notice this in the video, is the Injen Shortram intake. There is a bit of a debate whether these things add any power or not. I personally dont think they do as the stock Volkswagen intake is designed quite well and totally enclosed. This shortram intake on the other hand can suck some hot air in from the engine, and that engine does get hot. Bottom line here is that it sounds really awesome. Being able to hear induction noises is great, but I think thats about it, the Power Module on the other hand really adds to the power output and costs as much as an intake, so definitely you get more for your money there.

best place to buy any of this:
Neuspeed Power Module: via ECS tuning
Injen Short RAM Intake: via Amazon
